My dad has joined my friend in the saying “ CyclistCarCoexist, I hate driving the Matrix ” after 2 continuous days of driving it. My dad has criticized it to be a “rough” car and said it to be “too stiff”. He wants to sell it before I go to college, conceded it was great for corners, but completely shit for commuting. Mind you, this is the second Matrix to go through this household and the Current matrix has shocks that haven’t been changed (sans the front right corner). I guess a 2004 Sienna and my mom’s auto Camry has made him a little too soft. I laughed out loud.

To be honest, the matrix is a stout little car. It’s practical (I can stuff tons of shit in there with no problem) but I guess for a dad in the 50s, it’s a little too rough for him. He says the shocks are too stiff (ironically they are stock and I doubt the last owner cared to change them). The seats are a bit peculiar and suck in some traffic conditions...but I like it. It’s like why I like my road bike tires at 120 psi. And he also says the car isn’t fuel efficient. That is true.

But my dad bought the car, so I can only say so much. so we might be selling it around August...(sniff) and my dad has requested the replacement be an auto tragic ( sister does not know manual ), be a bigger car ( my dad wants a bigger car as more stable at high speeds ). This is to accommodate my parent’s presumptions that my sister is a auto only driver. 100 jalopbucks I bet it’s going to be a land cruiser or Venza.

Teach your sister manual. Though really... Land Cruisers are pretty cool.

“Bigger car so my sister can drive it”

Please elaborate on this?

When she comes back, she is definitely going to learn manual because I’m not a big fan of autotragic...always think of it as too much power for one foot to have....

Land Cruisers are groovy (dad is very likely to buy one) but he’s getting it as the ultimate reliability weekend cruiser. Hopefully I get him to start doing some off roading.

Oh whoops automatic transmission and the car in general with strong safety rating. I think my dad got this from the Infiniti I drove before (the safety rating was bad to the point the Matrix insurance is actually still cheaper with a point on my license than insuring the Infiniti). And automatic transmission....sister only knows auto. When my sister comes back, she’s going to be learning stick.....

and a more stable car at 70mph.

Venzas aren’t so bad. They’re taller, more-practical Camrys, essentially. Change the grille and get a decent paint color and they aren’t too ugly, either. But it will need the smaller wheel option to be comfortable.

Alternately, maybe something that isn’t Toyota. Or Honda. Or VAG. Or gm. Soooo many possibilities!

Well that’s really a shame in general. That Matrix will outlast us all, and a manual 2ZZ? Wish we had that, but we got an auto 1ZZ because reasons (Mrs. loves it so that’s the goal). I don’t feel unstable at all at 70mph... It’s buzzy, and you feel bumps pretty good, but I never feel unsafe. He’s got you on the fuel economy, though. That was one of the major reasons we shyed away from the 2ZZ and the Mazda3.

The fuel economy in city driving (most of what my dad was going) is awful. 70 MPH with heavy crosswinds across a bridge was scary. The Matrix is safe (reflects on insurance) and I’ve always felt that. Sigh.

Hm. If the Venza has a better reacting transmission than the Camry, it might be worth it, but is expensive on the used market. Smaller wheels is a given, because tire cost.

Within a 18 year old’s mind, the possibilities are endless.

That’s a lot of really subtle, debatable conclusions all wrapped up into nice little package. Followed by big action of course.

Venzas still have big wheels. 19” for the boring looking four cylinder, and 20” for the cool looking, probably more fun for you V6.
